Fonix Announces SDK for Rapid Development Of Speech Applications in EmbeddedSystems Fonix FAAST Embedded 1.0 SDK Features Graphical User Interface
Wed Mar 01 18:57:00 EST 2000

SALT LAKE CITY and CHICAGO, Mar 1, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Fonix
Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: FONX) announced today at the Embedded Systems
Conference in Chicago, Illinois the release of FAAST(TM) (Fonix Application
Accelerator Speech Toolkit) SDK designed for rapid development and
implementation of automatic speech recognition (ASR) and text-to-speech (TTS)
applications for embedded environments.

Pre-release copies of FAAST are being distributed to developers at the Fonix,
Microsoft and Epson booths at the Embedded Systems Conference and will be
available at the Fonix booth at the Computer Telephony Expo Spring 2000 in Los
Angeles next week. The release of FAAST Embedded 1.0 SDK comes after testing and
feedback from a number of beta partners including Intel, Microsoft, Epson,
Infineon and others.

"The FAAST SDK offers a significant competitive advantage for developers of
speech applications for embedded systems," said John A. Oberteuffer, vice
president Technology of Fonix. "This SDK allows developers to quickly prototype
applications and to directly create code for a variety of popular
microprocessors. This capability is especially important to meet the
increasingly short product cycles in today's market for embedded products."

Fonix FAAST Embedded 1.0 SDK offers a drag and drop graphical user interface for
rapidly building speech input and speech output into embedded applications. The
FAAST SDK currently supports seven microprocessors/DSP platforms and the
Microsoft Windows CE operating system. Fonix FAAST offers speaker independent,
noise immune, and continuous speech recognition, with a small memory footprint
and low MIPS requirements. Fonix speech output (text-to-speech) provides a
high-quality natural voice in a small footprint engine.

FAAST 1.0 allows developers to build an ASR and TTS command and control speech
application very quickly then download the program to a target platform for
testing and optimization. FAAST allows a developer to build speech applications
by dragging graphical icons representing speech functions to a workpad and
connecting them with drag and release lines to form a speech application.
Text-to-speech can be added as prompts or confirmation to any speech command via
a node wizard function. Once built, recognition accuracy and optimization can be
monitored and adjusted on-screen in an inspection window.
