TEC to sell computer unit to IBM Japan

March 2, 2000 02:33 AM
TOKYO, March 2 (Reuters) - Toyo Engineering Corp (TEC) , a major Japanese plant engineering company, said on Thursday it is selling its computer system subsidiary, TEC Information System Corp (TISCO), to IBM Japan Ltd, the Japanese unit of International Business Machines Corp IBM , on March 31.

The selling price has yet to be fixed but TEC is likely to sell it for more than one billion yen, a TEC spokesman said.

TISCO, capitalised at 100 million yen, sells computer systems and offers consulting services to corporations. It posted sales of 2.36 billion yen in the year to March 1999.

TEC has two other similar subsidiaries -- Toyo Business Engineering Co and Topacs. TEC is in negotiations to sell Topacs, the spokesman said without providing any further details about that possible sale.

TEC's shares closed at 125 yen on Thursday, up 21 yen or 20.19 percent.
