Robertson Stephens analyst Dan Niles, speaking at the firms Tech Conference in San Francisco, said he was "taking a renewed interest in the computer hardware sector right now," follow a 1999 of under performance. The Goldman Sachs Computer Hardware Index ($GHA: news, msgs) is up 2.6 percent. Niles added that he expects Dell (DELL: news, msgs) and Intel (INTC: news, msgs) to outperform the Nasdaq and lead the hardware sector higher in 2000. Dell is up 13/16 to 41 5/8 and Intel (INTC: news, msgs) is gaining 2 9/16 to 115 9/16. So far in 2000, Dell is down 18 percent and Intel is up 41 percent, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ($COMPQ: news, msgs), meanwhile, is up 17 percent in the same period.
