Ten,

I have to wonder whether code bloat really does become an issue in the real-world

At one time, code bloat was an issue because of DRAM prices. That is no longer an issue, but now we are faced with issues related to the instruction cache. L1 cache sizes tend to be rather small, and hit rates are severely affected by inefficient utilization.

Naw, it's never an issue in the real world. Code bloat is just a little nail you whack with the hammer of larger cache & more bus bandwidth.

But perhaps you answered the first half of my question in posting #95849.
