Nah, I don't know about that. Instinet will have to offer more than just liquidity for the retail online crowd. The next stage of brokerage competition will be on both the price and functionality ("bells and whistles") fronts. You or I might say, hey, now I can see how thick INCA is...but that value is lost on 90% of all the people who trade online. With few exceptions, only active or professional traders would really appreciate and use such information. I'm not convinced that just because they have a deep book that such will translate to an exchange-buster or an overnight online powerhouse. It was the Island ECN, and its' rapid growth, that really scared the prevailing market forces into action over the past 3 years. LPS5
