Murder Mystery at Yale 8:21PM PST, Mar 1, 2000

I have just finished watching 20/20 and I just want to say I am outraged that the New Haven, CT police dept and Yale have done such an injustice to Jim Van de Velde. I truly feel he is innocent. He has passed several lie detector tests and still this is haunting his life. It is an injustice to the Jovin family as it appears the New Haven Police tried to pin it on a person too quickly. Yale should be ashamed of how they have treated one of their professors. I hope some day the New Haven police will focus on the crime and not just on one person....just maybe then the real killer could be found and bring closure for the Jovin family.

Re: Murder Mystery at Yale 8:46PM PST, Mar 1, 2000

Tonight the rest of the Country got to see what New Haven has known for over a year. The New Haven Police and worst of all Yale University, have given Jim Van de Velde the shaft. Doesn't Yale University have a Law School? What ever happened to "innocent until proven guilty." Seems strange that the Police and the women that complained about Van de Velde did not actually participate in the 20/20 piece.

As for the Jovin's, they too are being treated unfairly. How can Yale and the New Haven Police do this to them. They are overseas, somewhat out of the loop and the only information they are getting is from a Police Department that has proven itself to be incompetent and a University that "just wants to move on from this". They deserve better; this may be the most brutal crime that has ever taken place in New Haven.

Melvin H. Wearing, step down! You have botched the case.

I've only read two or three dozen posts on this thread but I think that I learned more reading those post than what I learned watching 20/20 tonight. The show did mention that the witness that saw Suzanne at Phelps Gate also saw a well dressed blond man about 10 feet behind Suzanne. Was this new information or had you mentioned this before?
