Doin' a little brain-spinnin: So, McGaw buys the Irid and Ico assets on the cheap, unrolls a grand plan and strong PR machine, recapitalizes through a new public offering, investors flock in to attach themselves to the magic McGaw golden touch, the stock takes off and they buy Lor with the G* ownership on the cheap (if not G*), and control mega-spectrum and a viable system for a relatively small cash outlay. Whadya' think, Jon?

According to documents filed by Iridium in the New York bankruptcy court 2/18/00 (agreeing to transfer to New York), Iridium has 66 functioning satellites and 6 spares. This jibes with other info posted elsewhere - the confusion may be that several (12, I think, but not sure or the exact number) of the launched ADDITIONAL launched satellites are non-functional. Bankruptcy proceedings are not as slow as ordinary litigation, so don't get your hopes up, IMO.
