Paul,

Merced will be the PRICE and PERFORMANCE LEADER !!!!

it better shape up, because my Celeron at 550 MHz is leading the Merced samples in performance as well as in price performance.

Accept it - Intel is AHEAD - WAY AHEAD !!!

With a project that's now, what, 10 years old, Intel will have to deliver something even if it is a 500 MHz Merced just to save face. Otherwise, what would they say to all these partners you are talking about?

"Sorry falks, it didn't work out. Sorry about all the money you wasted. We are canceling this dog before it sees the light of day"

Now, how likely that Intel would be honest enough to say this? Intel knows it is in a dead end street. But it looks like the orders are to keep going, until they hit the brick wall.

Then, Intel may say:

"Because of the our feedback from our partners, and low customer demand, there will be no new releases in the Itanium line. We have advised our partners to concentrate on our offerings in Foster line of products. We will still continue to support the customers who purchased Itanium processors"

Paul - RE: "In your AMDroid jargon - Merced will be the PRICE and PERFORMANCE LEADER !!!!"

Dell likes to promote the price/performance of their Intel servers vs. Sun products. I bet other OEMs do also.

I think you are the only person who doesn't think price/performance is important. I assume this because you didn't answer the question I asked (twice) you earlier.
