Lucent would not want to buy SDLI. Such a move would limit potential customers either imediately or down the road. JDSU strategy has been very clear that they will not become a systems company. That is they will not compete with their customers such as NT, LU.

However, if that rumor was true, JDSU stock will skyrocket!

IMHO, there is basically a ZERO chance that rumor is true.

Interesting point Lee. So you interpret that annoucement yesterday as a strategy shift? If I were a shareholder, I would want to have them unlock the optical unit for increased value to me.

If they did that now, I would venture that their share price would skyrocket to well above 100/share. It would be smart to unlock that value.

And you're going to start to see EVERYONE do this. ALL these DOW stocks that are beaten down will be searching through their divisions to spin off high-growth sectors of their business to increase their share value.

That's the new paradigm. Don't go to the credit markets, go to the equity market.

You ain't seem nothing yet. CEO's going to charm school to learn how to be appealing. After all, liking what the company does and liking the personality of the CEO/management team are BOTH very important.
