Wi-LAN rumors persist..........supposedly Wi-Lan Inc. (T.WIN) spokeswoman Wanda Posehn said the company is continuing its efforts to build an alliance for its orthogonal frequency division multiplexing wireless technology. The company expects to give a progress report on the alliance at the end of its first quarter in March, she said.
Last December, Wi-Lan held a meeting in California to discuss harmonizing OFDM wireless communication industry standards. At the time, the company's president and chief executive, Hatim Zaghloul, said he expected the OFDM alliance to be formed within two months.
Robert Millham, analyst at Research Capital, said Zaghloul is scheduled to speak at a worldwidw wireless conference on March 15 in San Francisco, and that he expects Zaghloul to make an announcement about the alliance during his address. Zaghloul wasn't immediately available for comment Wednesday.
Peter Hodson, portfolio manager at Synergy Mutual Funds, said rumors persist that telecom industry giant Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU) will sign a licensing agreement for WI-LAN's OFDM technology.
Wi-Lan's Posehn declined to comment on the rumour.
