Some more from Gallup:

2000 General Presidential Election
In trial heats for the general election, either George W. Bush or John McCain as the Republican candidate beat Al Gore as the Democratic candidate, although McCain does so by a much wider margin. If the race is between George W. Bush and Al Gore, Bush now beats Gore by 9 percentage points (52% to 43%). In a race between John McCain and Al Gore, McCain wins by 24 points, 59% to 35%. [February 25-27, 2000]

2000 Race for Congress
Gallup measures the congressional strength of the two major parties by asking respondents whether they plan to vote for the Republican or Democratic candidate in their district. Among likely voters, Republicans now lead Democrats, 49% to 44%. Historically, Gallup's "generic ballot" measure, based on likely voters, is a highly accurate predictor of the national two-party vote for Congress. [February 4-6, 2000]

Congress Job Approval
51% of Americans approve of the way Congress as a whole is handling its job, while only 42% disapprove. [January 7-9, 2000]
