Ram, Motorola?

I like how Lev DISTINCTLY says in today's PR: "a MAJOR DOMESTIC manufacturer of cellular phones":

<< Lev Dawson, Chairman, founder and CEO stated, "This order is significant in that it represents acceptance of our technology and our batteries by a major domestic manufacturer of cellular phones. >>

Ram...couldn't be a continued order for QCOM as this is a different battery size. Still could be QCOM, but for a different product, maybe Kyocera (sp).

Well the PO says domestic manufacturer of cell phones. So it is highly likely that it is Qualcomm. Don't you wish that it is Motorola. That will be something.

Ram,

Based upon this quote from Lev you would have to define "domestic". Other than the satellite phones, would QCOM be considered a domestic manufacturer of cell phones?

Lev Dawson, Chairman, founder and CEO stated, ``This order is significant in that it represents acceptance of our technology and our batteries by a major domestic manufacturer of cellular phones. This battery utilizes a technology that is designed to allow cell phone manufacturers to make thinner and lighter handsets with better performance than was ever before considered possible. The end user customer has tested our batteries, visited our production facilities and has chosen Valence's Lithium Polymer as the energy solution for their advanced cellular phone application.'

IMO this is another of the 50 or so OEM's that they have had a design/sampling/testing "program" with and have reached the point in which the batteries and the cell phone design have come together. The announcement of actual shipments on Monday could have encouraged the OEM to issue the PO upon independent verification of VLNC's ability to produce commercial quality product. Since Lev indicated that he does not want to allocate all of his capacity to lower margin cell phone batteries, there may also be some OEMs that want to issue PO's in order to secure a share of limited production in the short term.

I am still anticipating that laptop PO for Valence to have met all of my expectations at this stage of their development.

Ram, the PR a few days ago noted the cells being shipped for the first PO customer were to a STANDING PO. You will likely not hear any other formal announcement from Valence regarding this (Globalstar/QCOM) PO, until Valence is allowed to state the customer's name (not common, in the industry). However, if Valence is able to attain a 'branding' stature, the connection will be clear by that means.

Meanwhile, today's PO seems to me to be to a new 3rd customer. Domestic? Kyocera US subsidiary, that bought QCOM, seems a strong candidate.

We can keep our eyes peeled for product announcements that would be based on these cells, and go from there. I expect they could be shipping these cells in short order, as they've had the tooling for some time.

AND ... we close a a new high! Congrats to the longs, the train is picking up steam ... now for some PDA cell orders ... and laptop orders by summer?

Regards!~
