Well, if you want to sell something, maybe you should just place a market order.

gomez.com does extensive work analyzing brokers and they rank American Express #8 overall.

Here is the Gomez summary of American Express. Interesting that they don't mention the other benefits of an American Express brokerage account, such as the amazing checking account they offer. But free trades is the best -- people who qualify and do several trades a month will save thousands a year.

----------- Gomez review:

American Express Brokerage - Overall #8

A lot of buzz about free trades but the real strength is in the breadth of offering. American Express Brokerage continued its redesign efforts and made one of the biggest jumps in this quarter`s Scorecard, climbing all the way to number eight. Amex continues to score high in the One-Stop Shopper category, but has added other services to bolster its offering. These include 24x7 customer service, advanced financial planning tools, and a commission grid that rewards customers who meet certain asset thresholds. Amex is also one of the few firms that lets you open an account and begin trading immediately. Customers with assets over $100,000 receive free trades. This will undoubtedly attract active traders, but Amex will have to improve its site performance, which was poor for the quarter, to keep those traders satisfied.

Key Benefits
Amex offers excellent telephone 24x7 customer service (if you can find the phone number). They also offer some of the
deepest financial planning tools of all the online brokerages, anchored by their "Roadmap to the Future" planning tool. Amex offers customers the ability to be referred to a registered investment advisor and an aggressive commission schedule.

Key Shortfalls
Amex had difficulty responding to e-mail customer service
inquiries and its home page lacks customer service information. In fact, the only 800 number listed on the site when we looked belonged to a gentleman who was quite frustrated, to say the least, with the number of calls he was receiving.
