No you don't get the shares if you buy COMS the day after the distribution.. what's so difficult here??

If you buy the barn the day after the cows are given away, you don't get the cows!!

Can't believe this..

jim,
I don't understand what is there to get confused. Once they distribute PALM shares to COMS owners then if you buy COMS you will not get PALMs. Is it clear now?
I hope you did n't get confused between PALM ipo date and actual distirbution date of PALM shares to COMS share holders.

"if you own COMS shares prior to distribution"

My point is, what if you buy it (COMS) the day after, do you still get the PALM shares. That's what is confusing.

jim; This is my final answer on the distribution. It is similar to a stock split. For example, say the distribution is going to happen on Sept 1, 2000.
On August 31, 2000, you have 200 shares COMS selling at $140 = $28,000. PALM is selling at $80.
On Septemper 1, 2000, you still have 200 shares of COMS only now the price is adjusted to $20 times 200 = $4000. You will get 300 shares of PALM times $80 = $24000. Your total investment remains the same $28000.
