Because it makes the internet faster (caching), because it can help to manage security (secure me).

As for NDS I agree with you: either they produce zillions of ZENS themselves or they open the architecture so that the developer community can help them to produce..

As for Mr Smart I have been lurking this thread for a long time I TRUST that you agree that reading his posts one can learn very little of any substance. Your posts are very good though.

Based on discussions on this thread, it is clear that Novell needs to find the killer app for Directory Services, which will create the strong demand for directories that we are all looking for. Along this line of thought, people are talking about the smart home and smart factory where trillions (Echelon's (ELON) numbers) of devices will be hooked up to the internet over the next few years. Even if this number is overhyped, the number of devices could still be very large. Wouldn't all of these devices in a factory need central control? Perhaps Echelon's products already accomplish this. If not, is this an area where Directory Services could offer a compelling solution? Is anyone from Novell out there who wants to comment?
