"The FP is quite impressive but you can buy a CuMine system today that outperforms it in SPECint95 based on
baseline scores.

A glimpse of things to come when CuMine goes over a GHz
this month."

Good thing too as an 800 MHz PIII does less than a 667 MHz
Alpha... so when each hits a GHz, PIII is further behind
maybe... but it doesn't much matter. What matters is
we can all shed a tear for Itanium as the in-order core
of Itanium , without on-chip L2 , at 733 MHz will be
quite sad when we get a glimpse of SpecInt for Itanium...
hence we always hear how well Itanium will do on
floating point.

By the way, 21264 doesn't have on-chip L2 just yet.
