SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Intel Corp. will formally launch its 1-GHz Pentium III microprocessor on next Wednesday(March 8), according to sources as computer manufacturers.

This launch gets weirder and weirder....what are "sources as computers manufacturers".

The sources are pretending to be computer manu.?!! Why can't the sources be real computer manu.?

Is this going to be another vapor launch?

The launch, to be backed by Dell Computer Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., and IBM Corp., will almost certainly come in the form of limited-production "special editions," according to the sources, who said they were briefed by Intel.

Oh my God, special edition.....I bet they are getting Martha Stewart into the deal....the monitors will be in pastels, autographed by Barrett himself.

What a clever idea....am I glad AMD didn't think of it first!!

With this latest move Intel will be competing against retailers who sell pre-tested, overclocked CPU's (what these 1ghz chips appear to be). This is one market that Intel didn't inform investors they are entering. Wow! One more market that Intel can now dominate <g>. INTC gonna rocket on this latest news (sarcasm).

This is classic FUD. Very reminiscent of Nintendo's historical PR machine when they felt threatened. Geez, and the arrogance of Intel is almost reminiscent of Nintendo's. Now that I give it a few more seconds of thoughts, there's alot of similarities between the two. We know where Nintendo is today.
