: Darbes: "Does anyone know of a high quality, long battery life, laptop, based on an AMD part"

You have to buy a laptop based on an Intel part for it to be high quality. LOL....just thought I'd say it before anyone else. In all seriousness, the commercially targeted notebooks from IBM, CPQ or Dell are of higher quality than the consumer targeted systems. I know it is probably against your religion to buy anything with Intel in it...but why not get what you need rather than compromise.

Darbes - RE: "Does anyone know of a high quality, long battery life, laptop, based on an AMD part that is relatively small and light but rugged -- like the Toshiba Tecra/Portege series -- but possibly from another manufacturer since Toshiba doesn't offer AMD in those lines. I need a minimum of 4-5 hours out of the laptop, and nobody seems to have it yet."

I don't know how long current laptop batteries last, but if you only want an AMD powered laptop that lasts that long you may have to wait until the K6-2+ with Gemni (JC has a link saying the official name is PowerNow!) comes out. I am not sure when that will happen, maybe by mid-Q2, maybe this month...

This 475MHz K6-2 HP system hp.com is nice. It has a 14.1 inch screen and a DVD ROM. But it only has 64MB ram - I'd add 64 more. You may be able to call and see how long the battery lasts.
