....Hindery's appointment as CEO may ease the company's effort to launch the tracking stock. He previously had overseen two tracking stock entities when he served as CEO of Tele-Communications Inc, the cable television firm acquired by AT&T last year. Hindery also will continue to serve as head of the GlobalCenter unit.

Annunziata, meanwhile, specialized in building small companies and helped upstart Global Crossing during its rapid initial burst of growth. Annunziata previously created Teleport Communications Group, a local telephone company AT&T acquired two years ago.

``My passion is taking small companies and growing them into large companies,' Annunziata said.

``This is now a major global enterprise with extraordinary opportunities ... Leo Hindery is the right person to lead Global Crossing in the next phase of its development,' he said.

Over the past year, Global Crossing has grown from 148 employees to more than 12,000 and expanded the number of major cities reached by its network from two to more than 200.

Global Crossing, known for having a top-heavy management team, also eliminated the vice chairman titles held by former Frontier Corp. executive Joe Clayton and Jack Scanlon.

Clayton will continue to oversee Global Crossing's Americas operations, while Scanlon will become vice chairman of Asia Global Crossing.
