Mr. John Auston reports
Two new kimberlites have been discovered in Alberta, as the winter 2000 drilling program continues.
Buffalo Hills property -- two new kimberlites
Two kimberlites were discovered by drilling on the Buffalo Hills property during February, bringing to 34 the total number found to date. K8 is covered by 38 metres of overburden and is indicated by a magnetic anomaly measuring approximately 300 metres in diameter. K160 is covered by 40 metres of overburden and is also indicated by a magnetic anomaly 100 metres in diameter. Microdiamond results from these kimberlites are pending. The drilling program on the Buffalo Hills property is continuing with the test of additional targets.
K14 project area -- further material from BH225
In the K14 project area approximately one tonne of drill core was collected from kimberlite BH225, which was discovered in February of 1999 one kilometre north of K14. It lies under 30 metres of overburden and is indicated by a magnetic anomaly measuring approximately 125 metres by 100 metres. Diamond content will be established through microdiamond analysis and the processing of the sample using the dense media separation plant at Ashton's laboratory in North Vancouver. BH225 returned one of the better microdiamond results of the Alberta kimberlites. As reported on April 28, 1999, a total of 67 diamonds was recovered from the original 96.4 kilogram sample, including five with a least one dimension measuring greater than 0.5 millimetres.
Caribou Mountains property -- two anomalies drilled
Two magnetic anomalies were drilled on the Caribou Mountains property in February. The source of anomaly CM1 is an iron-rich rock with possible volcanic characteristics intersected at a vertical depth of 116 metres. Core samples are currently undergoing testing to determine if the rock has kimberlitic affinities. The second anomaly, CM5, is caused by magnetic material in the overburden.
The joint venturers on the Buffalo Hills/joint venture lands and Cayo lands are Ashton, Alberta Energy Company Ltd. and Pure Gold Minerals. Currently, Ashton's interest in these properties is approximately 44.7 per cent (Buffalo Hills), 42.7 per cent (K14 project area), and 35.6 per cent (Caribou Mountains).
All exploration programs are operated by Ashton and under the direction of Brooke Clements, professional geologist, who is Ashton's vice-president, exploration.
