Steve-
I hear what you are saying and you do have some valid concerns. However, where as you see it as being crippled from the start, I see it as being unshackled and let free. With TransLucent(that is what everyone at work is calling the new company)out from Lucents umbrella, we will be able to go out in new directions. We will not have all the red tape that is associated with a big company like Lucent to hold us back. TransLucent will keep most of its customers because of its association w/ Lucent. They will also get new customers because they are no longer affiliated w/ Lucent. We won't grow the 20+% a year that Lucent does, but we should reach double digits. I wish your friend the best, but I think she made a mistake.

I strongly believe this is a win-win situation for shareholders. Lucent is now stream line. The parts that were slowing their growth are now gone and the divisions they kept, grew at a phenomenal rate last year and should continue to do so. This stock WILL continue to dominate.
Now shareholders get part of a new company for FREE. When you decide to sell your shares of TransLucent, no matter the price, you will always make a profit.

I'm in my late 20's, so I can afford to take a chance and roll the dice. I like being the underdog, you have nowhere to go but up.
The best of luck to you!
