I'm with you on the "inconclusive". Probably Suzanne, like most women, had pierced ears, and under the circumstances removing the earrings would have been too much trouble for the killers to waste time on. Most college students don't wear Rolexes, and in any case the watch may have been hidden by the sleeve of her jacket. As you suggest, the dollar bill could have been in her pocket for months. (You never really know what's in your pockets; today I found a dead bee in one of mine. Strange. If I'd been murdered, I wonder what the forensics people would have thought.)

One thing that this does lead me to believe, though, is that Suzanne deliberately didn't take any money with her when she left her apartment. Unless there's something the police are holding back, this suggests to me that she wasn't planning on going anywhere, but meant to drop off the keys and return home.

I'm still extremely puzzled by that carbon steel blade, however, and wonder why no one else seems to be. Did they say what kind of knife it was? Pocket knife, or not? How long was the blade?
