Watson,

All things considered, the March GHz PIII sounds like a real crock. Intel marketing is pulling some pathetic stunts these days. Apparently Jerry has driven them insane.

Yes, it is amazing what more than a little competition at the high end has apparently accomplished. Consumers will now have 1GHz available this month, when probably at the beginning of this year most people on this thread assumed they wouldn't be introduced until the very end of 2000.

Frankly, if Intel wants to play the game of introducing 1GHz chips that will be completely over priced and on ration, without also having 850 through 950 speed chips in volume production, I truly hope that AMD responds by flooding the market with 900 -1GHz chips, and quickly eliminates its 600-700 MHz chips. Let the 800/850 Athlons become its value chip. The Athlon would be a true sledgehammer for AMD.

Who the hell would buy a supposedly an economy to mid range computer from Intel when you can buy one for the same or reduced price with an Athlon running 200 Mhx faster (and that is not considering the introduction of much better Athlon mobo coming onto the market)? AMD could reach its goal of 30% of the world chip market by the end of the summer.

If AMD can release 900-1GHz Athlons in volume in the next month, the market will eventually realize what a significant accomplishment this is and everyone long on AMD will be richly rewarded.
