Dear Racey-Gracey: I hope that you are mistaken as to not teaching the constitution and pledge of allegience in schools anymore. Its bad enough they took the morning prayers out (never did understand how we can put, "In God we Trust" on our money and not have a little nondenomination prayer at school. Personally, and I am a throwback to the old order, I think much of our trouble in America can be directly attributed to the swing to each individuals rights and liberties with no longer much concern for the whole of us. I know thats arguable, only stating how I feel.
As to ages in WWII, my oldest brother was in the Marines and on many of the bloody campaigns you have read of. He told me that there were MANY 14 year olds in the Marines and a lot of them were Killed in Action. I myself was in Vietnam and in the Marines too, but in my day just the opposite was occurring. My 2nd brother was not only in WWII but also in Korea for the entire time, wounded twice but only sent to Japan to heal then back into the line. After that he was a Boy Scout Master. One day, a gang of hoodlums terrorized his neighbor, an elderly Woman. He ran over to protect her with a rifle. HE was arrested NOT THEM even though they forceible entered her home and defecated in front of her on her living room floor among other disgusting acts. My brother spent the night in jail, went to trial and ultimately was let go BUT he had to pay his attorneys fees. Now, he says, when the Revolution comes, he will stay home and watch it on T/V. THAT is where Patriotism has gone, down the sewer. JDN
