That is an excellent point. If Gold is primarily a Currency, then perhaps Barricks approach has been correct.

If and when the dollar declines and turns in Gold's favor, Barrick, the smart hedger it is, will do the right thing.

Do you want to bet that the 1.6 million ounces of new production is not factored into the market. The impact of that production and the hedges associated with it will have a depressing effect on the price of gold. Supply needs to be reduced by postponing new production and delivering newly mined gold to hedgebooks.

CB's holdings of gold adds nothing to money supply.
