Rob,

AMD is dreaming of a day when a box rolls off its lines and the last thing you decide is whether you want it to be an Alpha or an Athlon.

This line from the Register article fascinates me. Is there some sort of Compaq-AMD deal in the works?

Re: "Intel is forced, through the might of the United States government, to make Alpha chips for its customer Compaq for perpetuity. Well, not quite perpetuity, but in chip terms, 10 years is equivalent to 1,000 years of software. "

Nice try Scumbria but Intel doesn't make Alpha's anymore.
