Scumbria, Re: Even the most die-hard Intel fans must be a little uncomfortable with this situation.

I don't know if I am the most die-hard one but I am still
sitting here comfortably watching this GHz race and enjoy
very much for all those interesting scenarios described on the other thread :-)

Scumbria,

<It is becoming pretty obvious that the PIII 1 GHz release is little more than a ploy to keep AMD out of the spotlight.>

There is some bit of truth to this, I agree, though I would not call it a "ploy".

<In a few weeks, GHz AMD boxes will be plentiful, and Intel is going to be in hot water with the OEMs (again.)>

I do not think so. Limited volumes from Intel is equivalent to plentiful volumes from AMD, IMO. Remember this is the consumer space and these systems will be relatively expensive, therefore limited.

<Even the most die-hard Intel fans must be a little uncomfortable with this situation.>

Aside from the "token" paranoia shareholders inherit from owning Intel, this is not uncomfortable at all. In fact I see this as a preemptive strike, and one in which AMD can do little about.

Regards,

SK
