What I hate about that bit of Blodget-eering (and a similar recent comment from Mary Meeker at MS) is that it seems profound, yet is actually trite. Okay, 70% of companies will fail. Which 70%? Earn your frigging salary.

The problem with these guys, from Blodget to Meeker and the rest, is they are so desperately afraid of saying anything specifically negative. Partly because in their heart of hearts they know they have no idea what 70%, and partly because they also don't want to take a flier and have i-banking crawl over the Chinese wall and beat them senseless.

Nevertheless, unless you can give more guidance than that, it is a little like a weather forecast where you say, "It will rain on 20% of the days this year." Okay, but what days?
