Notice the bolded secion. Usually a brokerage would justify their call. This borders on manipulation.

RESEARCH ALERT - Global Crossing cut

NEW YORK, March 3 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch on Friday said it had reduced its rating on shares of telecommunications provider Global Crossing Ltd. to near-term accumulate from buy.

-- Further details on the downgrade were not immediately available.

-- Shares of Bermuda-based Global Crossing, which late Thursday named Leo Hindery as its chief executive to succeed Bob Annunziata, have risen sharply in recent days as it had been rumored to be in merger talks with German telephone giant Deutsche Telekom AG .

-- But a source told Reuters Friday that the companies were not holding such talks at present. ``There have been talks off and on in the past, but there's absolutely nothing going on at the moment,' the source said.

-- Deutsche Telekom and Global Crossing declined to comment.

-- Global Crossing shares were up 3-5/8 at 58 in heavy early trading on Nasdaq Friday morning.
