Lucent , Tecom win Taiwan ADSL bids
TAIPEI, March 3 (Reuters) - Taiwan state telephone monopoly Chunghwa Telecom said on Friday it had awarded equipment contracts worth T$1.797 billion (US$58.4 million) to Lucent Technologies of the United States and Taiwan's Tecom Co.

Lucent won three contracts for a total of 166,575 asynchronous digital subscriber lines (ADSL), while Tecom won a contract for 77,258 lines, Chunghwa said in a statement.

Chunghwa officials declined to give a breakdown of how much each contract was worth.

ADSL lines carry Internet data at many times the speed of conventional phone lines.
