Bob : Theoretically, that's true.

Unfortunately, the trade union has its nose firmly glued to the rand gold price and will call a strike for more wages whenever they smell that the mines are making increased profits. Hence, devaluation leads to wage increases and therefore inflation. Furthermore, rand devaluation chases away foreign investors who seek to protect their capital.
