Question for TA people: How high will we have to close before we can consider the downward trend broken to the upside? Will the breakout have to occur on high volume?

Definitely closed outside the down channel. Next step is to take out the 50EMA at 22, which is also the top Bollinger line. That could start a whole new pattern if THQI carries through from here.

I have always traded THQI primarily on FA myself so take that FWIW.
