XTO gets an unexpected plug...

cbs.marketwatch.com

...
Almost a year and a half ago, corporate insiders at Cross Timbers Oil (XTO: news, msgs) began buying up shares at around $7 to $8 each. The oil stock then rallied to $15 a share. Today, Cross Timbers shares are close to year-ago levels and insiders are buying the shares again, said Bob Gabele, director of insider research at First Call/Thomson Financial.

From November 18 to January 7, two insiders purchased 21,000 shares at $8.25 to $11.75 a share. Directors Luther J. King and Lane Collins made their largest purchases ever, according to Gabele's report.

Not only is that a bullish sign, Gabele believes, but oil was selling at around $12 a barrel a year ago compared to $31 today.

"Share prices of oil companies have not kept up with the pace of oil prices," he said. "This fact could make many small producers interesting takeover candidates for larger oil companies looking to replace reserves."

Cross Timbers closed at 9 5/8 on Friday, down 1/8.

JQP,

I rolled a few more shares of OEI into UPR today. Using your "common sense" approach, OEI looks like it's getting ahead of itself (BTW, OEI represents about 1/3rd of my portfolio and UPR represent another 1/3rd).

For the last 6 months, my profits would evaporate after these quick spurts sputtered out, so I learned to take profits (it aint cash until it's sold). Gotta love that phrase.

I believe this time may be different, so instead of going to cash, I'm rotating money. Off margin.

My only regret this last week was missing the bird!! (FLC).

BTW: No one that I talk with seems concerned about gas prices. I guess if you can afford a $40,000 car/truck, you can afford to put gas in it. Must be the neighborhood...

Time for a cold one.

JQP or Lingerfeldt

I'm sure Slider's happy your happy with his decorum since you've been one of his favorite whipping boys this past 16 months or so. I know he needs your validation. (VBG)
