Sony's PlayStation2 goes on sale in Japan

--------------------------------------------

More than 7,000 stores across Japan started selling an advanced
version of the popular PlayStation game console developed by Sony
Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) at 7 a.m. Saturday.
In Tokyo's Akihabara district, which features the nation's
largest cluster of electric retailers, several hundred youngsters
waited overnight from as early as Thursday in front of such retailers
to get the console, which was sold on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The consoles were immediately sold out in about an hour.
