Well maybe. But it takes balls to spend billions on a big acquisition. And most often they don't work out.

But growing 4-5 business units into 1-2$Bn/yr each within 4-5 years aint gonna happen either.

Intel took a modest risk with their acquisitions.


They will be rewarded with modest success.

And from the overall strategic objective of changing the top line growth dramitically it will be a failure.

Not quite. Andy Grove turned over the reins to Barrett at the stockholders' meeting at the Santa Clara Convention Center in May, 1998. Humble Carl and Mrs., Paul, Jeff and several other SI luminaries and I were there to witness it. Why doesn't AMD hold their meeting here instead of in NYC, I wonder? I might even buy a share and go! (Not that you have to).
