I think these 3 statements say it all. Intel is too late and CSCO is always early.

As far as cisco. They buy young companies before the product has really hit. Occasionally they buy and basically shut it down - just taking a potential competitor out. Cisco has a fast growing market and they have done very well.

It's also a headhunting strategy. Great way to acquire top talent. Not just individual people, but whole teams.
