I cannot determine which environment has higher risk. That is because the markets are topsy-turvy. . .think about it. . .some of the very best companies. . AOL, LU, T, WCOM. . .have trouble getting out of their own way. . . .while companies with negative earnings. . .have been in biz for a matter of months. . .don't even have a product yet. . .just a good idea. . .are soaring to heights never imagined. Whats more, unknown nothing small caps are suddenly roaring ahead. . .a major indicator that a top has been reached is when there is nothing left to run. . .that hasn't happened yet. . .but it would be a good idea to keep a list [I think we have one] of unwanted garbage stocks. . . VUSA was on that list, if I recall. . .today it moved into the 4's from the 3's . . . [thank Kevin Shea for the alert] and in the after hours it hit some news which propelled it to $7 where it ended the day. While it is good to watch CSCO and MSFT. . . sometimes we can learn more about what is going on by watching the dredge of the market. I believe this summer's sell-off will be earlier than last year. . .but I am still not sure what will propel it. . . and after recalling how quickly the tech stocks can retreat. . . . . . .I am far more interested in getting out EARLY than getting out at the TOP I am talking about a major retreat. . .such that only happens about once in a year. . . but you will all be amazed at some of the choices I pick for the summer portfolio. . .which comes out in a few weeks.
