Re: "steve, That article says that several mobo makers as well as system makers showed operating 1 GHZ Athlons at CeBit, so I guess they have beaten Intel already"

Daaaaah.. Bill..... IBM, HP and Dell showed 1 GHz Intel platforms at the Intel Developers Forum.

Intel had systems vendors showing GHz systems first. Intel has systems vendors announcing GHz systems first. Intel will have systems vendors shipping GHz systems first. AMD is playing a desperate game of catchup to a competitor they said couldn't possibly match them for speed.

Bill

The gigahertz Athlon does not come so quite unexpectedly for attentive CeBIT visitors: On the exhibition booth of AMD the PC manufacturers Gateway and Compaq had demonstrated already computers with this processor, presented manufacturers such as FIC their Main boards with a CCU, which was marked with " AMD-K71000 ".

These were definitely not lab rat samples running around on special motherboards or jigawatt intel heatsinks it sounds like.

And to think this on aluminum from Austin.

Willy better hurry. It's gonna be ugly if Willy don't.
