CABLE DATACOM NEWS publisher Kinetic Strategies Inc. estimates North American MSOs pushed past the 2-million mark for cable modem customers in February 2000. U.S. cable operators counted an estimated 1.5 million installed cable modem customers at the end of February and Canadian operators served 560,000. Cable modem service was available to 43 million homes in the U.S. and Canada, equal to 40 percent of all cable homes passed. Kinetic Strategies estimates North American MSOs are now adding more than 5,000 new cable modem customers per day.

AT&T, Time Warner and Rogers led the industry in Q4 1999 and are maintaining momentum in the New Year. AT&T added more than 90,000 @Home customers in Q4, a single-quarter industry record for broadband Internet acquisitions, to finish the year with 207,000 cable modem subscribers. Time Warner added 75,000 Road Runner customers in Q4 to end the year ahead of its peers with 320,000 Internet subscribers. Rogers outran its Canadian colleagues by adding 60,300 subscribers in Q4 to finish 1999 with 185,700 @Home customers.
[AT&T & Rogers have the highest Q4 99 subscriber growth rate at 82.2 & 48.9% respectively outpacing Time Warner at 30.6%.]
