I've had it happen WAAAAY too many times..the MMs act with impunity in the BBs. Both on the buy and sell side. GBGLF..I try to buy at the ask, with a limit of the asked price...it often gets ignored. In this case, it is a Canadian stock..and the MMs see the order, go to Canada exchange, try to buy it on the bid, for resale to me...AHs.
Same with US stocks..they try to pick it up on the bid to sell it to us on the ask..and vice versa.
For a blood curdling time..read the Knight/Trimark article on MSNBC..also in the WSJ...what arrogance these guys have.
They say they are even monitoring our individual trading..and squeezing us out if we're better than them..AHs again.
Best, Savant
PS..Swabbie will tell you..1. the offers are not 'firm' (I call that FALSE ADVERTISING) 2. the MMs were too 'busy' 3. try again tomorrow....if you like getting Scr@wed.
Best suggestion I can offer is..put your order in as a limit..a little above on the ask or a little below on the bid..you have a better chance of being filled.
Secondarily..put it in as far ahead of the market open as you can..if you have a target..Knight claims they "guarantee" 250K shares of fills in the am..if you are in the correct range..sometimes it actually works that way.
