For my nikon 950, I've also had good results with the GP (GoldPeak) 1300mAh NiMH batteries. Many specialty battery stores do carry them. After a full charge, the NiMH definitely lasts at least 4x as long as any alkaline battery.

Your count of 20-30 photos sounds kind of low. On a sunny day (no flash), I can roughly fill up a 96MB (120+ 1600x1200 pictures in normal mode) CF on a single charge, but it mostly depends on how long you have the display on between each shot. I also always turn off the lcd display.

The only caveat is that the rechargers for the NiMH are not the same as the 'recharageable alkalines', and I'd get one that is designed for the battery, as they are meant to switch from full to trickle charge in about 5hrs. Overcharging kills NiMH. Oh, make sure they are 1300mAh, I saw some 900mAh and 1100mAh ones.
