If I could separate from the *nix Khemer Rouge momentarily here <g>, I'd say with all due respect rudedog, it's not about development history of UNIX or VMS/NT (well, certainly somewhat with NT), it's about the appropriateness of design to the current computing paradigm.

I really am anxious to read your views after you read that Gacarz book and apply it to the current context.

(Tying the red bandana back on my head) Here is that Petreley link (in 4 installments). The last two I found the most interesting, particularly the part about 'local user context'.

It's interesting to read the things that have changed in two years and the things that haven't. Petreley seems to be proven wrong about the stability of 'NT 5'. Of course, the promised features are missing. The conclusion I draw is the M$ is a one trick pony. And that's ultimately their undoing.
