I often sell half of a big gainer at a double and label the rest CORE in my portfolio. Then I don't trade them at all unless I think the FA or TA is breaking down so much that I don't want to hold the shares any longer. I recently sold a core holding in COMS because I changed my opinion about the long-term future for PALM. But I had COMS from 35 to 109 long and then shorted some when PALM started trading.

My longest holds right now are CMGI and RNWK from split-adjusted 9 and 15. CRY.TO is a triple and I have some little jobs like STKR and NSATF bought under $3 where I took some money out and kept the rest for runs over 20 or 30. Still holding them too.

Many people can't decide if they are investors or traders so they pull the trigger for the wrong reasons.
