Hello All, I am a Canadian investor with a broad portfolio made up entirely of leading edge tech stocks, mostly small cap. I have held BRCM since beginning of Nov 99, at $156, pre split & have been lurking on this thread since I bought. I especially enjoy the comments & opinions of Brian Malloy. I would like to comment on the last few post about early wireless plays & bluetooth. Bluetooth has some serious problems & delays although it also has a long list of serious backers & support. I am avoiding it. May I offer an alternative suggestion? Currently 50% of the $ value of my portfolio is invested in a Canadian wireless company called Wi-LAN. WIN:TSE It is currently only listing on the Toronto exchange in Canadian currency. I got into WIN in April 99 for around $4, it is now $80 & is still for the most part undiscovered but that is changing very quickly, especially in Canada. It has been starting to attract a lot of US interest & I know of many US investors who have gotten in. They have patented high speed wireless data transmission rates which are currently 54 MBPS but will soon be 155 MBPS as per the recent CC. They have the leading technology in the world in this respect. It is based on W-OFDM. They have proven the effectiveness of it in fixed & 70 mile per hour vehicle mobile environments as well as through home networking. Philips has been building ASICS since last summer & will incorporate the technology in STB's & other consumer products. They are set to announce an OFDM alliance soon which could likely include the likes of LU, NT, Ericsson, Nokia, Intel, Sony, etc They are already partners with Philips & Telia. It was LU that initiated this OFDM alliance back on Dec 2. Strong rumour has it that LU will partner with WIN & license their technology very soon. Telia is a very large European (Swedish) telco building a broad network of fiber & wireless (using WIN technology)across Europe & soon in the US. They have made a deal with Worldwide fiber to share fiber networks around the world. WIN will soon be doing a US$ financing/share offering & listing on the NASDAQ. By soon, it could happen in March but more likely within 2-3 months. Many have labeled WIN as a potential Qualcomm as they will likely achieve their greatest success through licensing their patent protected IP. CSCO has a similar but inferior technology called V-OFDM. It is the opinion of the CEO/founder (a scientist) of WIN that CSCO's tech is both inferior & infringes on WIN patents. It was stated by him that WIN experimented with what CSCO is doing in 93 but discarded it as inferior. There is a significant wireless show next week in San Francisco & CEO Dr. Hatim Zaghloul with be a featured speaker. Many think we will get NR's next week in conjunction with this show. Lastly the SI WIN thread is very active & informative. There are many longs with substantial investments in WIN, many have very strong connections to the management/founders. For the thread search Wi-LAN. For charting & delayed quotes try www.bigcharts.com & use ca:win for symbol. Thanks for reading. Cheers!!!
