Do you think that might have something to do with AT&T??? There's also a reason that critical manufacturing, electronic funds transfer, cellular telephone billing systems, stock market transaction engines, and a host of other verticals DON'T run on Unix... I think the telephone companies' use of Unix has a whole lot more to do with AT&T than with any special architectural features of Unix, though given the Unix heritage it's hard to separate the two in that particular industry.
