New York, March 5 (Bloomberg) -- Vice President Al Gore and
Arizona Senator John McCain won the editorial endorsement of the
New York Times for Tuesday's New York primary. The newspaper
said it backed McCain over Texas Governor George Bush in part
because Bush ``has embraced a punitive, hard-right agenda.' It
endorsed Gore because ``he communicates a passion to lead, a
determination to leave a positive mark on history and a burning
desire to step out of his mentor's shadow and prove that he
possesses the self-control and presidential high-mindedness so
lacking in Mr. Clinton,' the newspaper said.

Gore has a 21 percentage point lead over former Senator Bill
Bradley in the New York primary, while McCain and Bush are about
even in the most recent polls.

BTW. Bush is getting independents already. In Va. the independent vote was almost even, if I remember correctly. Yes. He did not get the vote from Democrats that McCain got. But do you really believe that all those would stick with McCain in the fall? And the independents that will flock to Gore in the fall would have probably gone that route anyhow. Give me a break again. Bush HAS to be brand new blood on the scene in comparison to Gore. McCain is running on false assumptions that his revamping talk of changing campaign contributions would make him the better candidate. Legal campaign contributions are legal and illegal contributions are not. So, both candidates can run on this subject in the fall. Bush is for revamping if everyone is included, for instance, Unions. Anyhow, Bush has a great crossover record in Texas. Check the numbers when he ran against his Democratic opponent in Texas, Ann Richards. Bush did so well in Texas that nobody even ran against him in the second election. Nobody could attack what he accomplished, so nobody tried. Only McCain is trying. He has taken the low road from the beginning and now he whines when he is getting a little back. Accomplishments speak for themselves. And these are primary elections and toughness is supposed to be a virtue. Didn't the news media say that Bush would not be tough enough against Gore? Well, he is practicing. gg. The media suddenly does not like toughness. Now the media is waffling. What does that remind you of? Issues and accomplishments should be the talk of the day, NOT Religion.
Rev. Farwell is not even in Politics anymore. Watch him tonight on TV at 9 pm EST.

Yes. This has to be a good strategy saying that the majority of the Republican voters don't know what's good for them. Only some independents and some of those liberal Democrats know better, right? I am one of those voters that agree with the Democrats on primary election voting. Keep it closed and then let the votes fall where they may in the presidential elections. I do feel that it should be up to the Parties to determine their candidate and then the rest of the voters can decide whom they want to flock to for President. A candidate with a good record in a big State or a yes man to the President, no matter what. White House Lawn at Impeachment time comes to mind.

I believe Bush is less liable to verbal assault than McCain. Bob Jones University is a dead issue in the fall. Democratic leaders have gone there also. And Gore has def. more skeletons in his closet than any candidate running, so this could be a great race. Now that he is an Alpha Man he may even get more women's vote than expected. gg.

"It's the Economy stupid" should not be a great factor in the fall. After all, it's businesses and a Republican Congress that made things go that way. Yes. Clinton helped also. He was pulled kicking and screaming gg more to the middle until lately. Now he is reversing that stance, probably to help his wife's Senate campaign.

Let's see which connection at the hip , warranted or unwarranted, will come out ahead in the fall. You were talking yesterday about Bush not knowing where Afghanistan is. Well, Gore can sit right on top of a person and doesn't know when a wagging finger is true or false. Good judgement is part of being a leader.

Thank God Tuesday will be here soon and I don't have to talk about this again until next fall. gg.
