The black line is the S&P 500 on a semi-log scale. The plotting software in gnuplot 3.7, which is freeware available at: geocities.com I use the windows pc version. Yahoo! finance uses a version of gnuplot that they modified in-house. I can give you a sample plot file which will produce a .gif file from data. It will save you some time trying to figure things out. --- EDIT: There seems to be something strange with the gnuplot project. The link above doesn't have the latest version and my other links don't seem to work. But the latest windows version can be obtained from: ftp.monash.edu.au
