I don't know how well Iridium would mesh with McCaw's plans for Teledesic. From my non-engineer standpoint, it seems like Iridium would be a perfect bridge to Teledesic - both plans involve satellite-to-satellite links, both are KA-band LEOs, but I guess that there must be technical reasons that made it unattractive. Or, maybe he plans to take his chances on picking up the satellites at a forced sale. A trustee's sale passes the property devoid of any prior claims or liens, so he'd have no obligations to any of Iridium's debtors, nor would he be required to fulfill any of Iridium's contractual or legal obligations. Or, maybe, ICO will give him what he needs. At any rate, as I understand it, Teledesic doesn't want to focus on satellite telephony, it wants to focus on data transfer, while Iridium, like Globalstar, was focusing more on voice.
