Steve, AMD CEO Jerry Sanders himself already confirmed the premise you stated here:

<Unless you point out some data that indicates penetration of AMD Athlon's into the much larger business segment ( like fortune 500 companies ordering from Fry's or something ), then nothing has changed in this segment except that the post-Y2K affect is favoring Intel's business.>

Check out the second page of ZDNet's interview with Sanders:

You say, "Well wait a minute Jerry, you've got 50 percent of the mobile market, and you've got 40 percent of the commercial market, or the desktop market, how come you've only got 16 percent of the worldwide market share?" The answer is: because we don't have a very large market share of the commercial stakes, because up until now we didn't have the ideal solution. Athlon is an ideal solution.

In effect, Jerry just admitted himself that although AMD has a huge presence in retail, AMD's overall market share is still quite low, meaning that their non-retail market share is even lower. And that's something no one would ever be able to guess just by taking a trip down to the local Fry's.
