Critical Path's Wireless Messaging Solution to Power Finland-based Unified Messaging Platform
(BusinessWire, 03/6/2000 07:04)

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 2000--

Relationship Underscores Critical Path's Commitment

to Provide Tecnomen's Customers with the Ability

to Access their Messages Anywhere, Anytime

Critical Path Inc. (NASDAQ:CPTH), the dominant global provider of business-to-business Internet messaging and collaboration solutions, today announced the signing of a Solutions Provider agreement with Tecnomen, a leading supplier of unified messaging and wireless Internet solutions based in Finland.

Under the terms of the agreement, Tecnomen will integrate Critical Path's message store and directory components with its new unified messaging solution.

Using Critical Path and Tecnomen's joint solution, customers can access all of their messages -- email, voicemail, and fax -- either from a Web browser, or from one of the new generation wireless access protocol (WAP) phones, and synchronize and store their messages regardless of the format or media.

This unified messaging technology brings the customer the benefit of a single service, and easy access to messages whether at home, in the office, or on the road. For enterprises, it is beneficial to have a single point of billing and management for what are currently separate services.

For Internet service providers and telecommunications providers, unified messaging is another way to attract new customers and extend their relationships with existing customers.

"As the market leaders in unified messaging, Tecnomen and Critical Path will be able to bring innovative new services to Europe and further evolve the wireless Internet market," said Doug Hickey, CEO at Critical Path.

"We share their vision of a world where mobile devices and the Internet converge; what we can offer is a set of products and services that will continue to lead the way in the expansion of Internet messaging."

A recent report by Boston-based IGI Consulting Group predicts that the number of people accessing the Internet via wireless devices worldwide will grow to 830 million by 2005, up from seven million in 1999. Furthermore, by 2003 IGI estimates that more people will be accessing the Internet by mobile phones than by PCs.

"With mobile wireless access set to become the way most people use the Internet, it made a lot of sense to partner with a clear leader in the Internet space," said Kai Kauto, director of product management and marketing at Tecnomen. "In bringing advanced new services rapidly to market for customers, we believe the Tecnomen and Critical Path products and services are an extremely good match."

Critical Path's Wireless Services

Critical Path's Wireless Internet Messaging Services provide wireless carriers, paging companies, device manufacturers and Web ISPs and portals the ability to offer a single Internet persona to their customers regardless of whether they communicate using Web-based mail, mobile phone, pager or any other Internet appliance.

Critical Path's global wireless communications infrastructure enables two-way access to email allowing customers to completely manage their email inbox from mobile devices including forwarding, deleting, replying and creating Internet messages.

Critical Path intends to be the clearing house of all store-and-forward communications that needs to be converted and transmitted across multiple systems and protocols, including pagers and mobile phones in addition to fax, voice and e-mail integration.
